"Thin" People Struggle With Thoughts of Food, Too!
by: Suzette Kroll Barancik, RD)

I COMPLETELY understand what you're going through and I commend you on your honesty and ability to get into cyberspace to share your story.

As a nutrition professional, I have worked with thousands of people over the last 1 1/2 decades, and I'll tell you...I've met very few "naturally" thin people...you know...those rare ones who could care less about food and actually FORGET to eat!!

No...the "thin" people I've met and worked with have gotten that way because they've become really good at certain SKILLS...including how to manage cravings.

"Thin" people may still HAVE urges to eat fast food and junk food (I know I sure do!), but they don't always REACT to the thought by driving through the drive thru...or if they do, they get the smallest hamburger or smallest order of fries, in an attempt to do the least damage.

The good news is that you can retrain your thoughts AND you can retrain your reactions to your thoughts!

I love the notion of "thinning thoughts." I personally use "thinning thoughts" to manage my own food cravings. When I have the urge to eat something that SOUNDS really good but really isn't really good for me or my weight, I think about how PHYSICALLY terrible I will feel (bloated, groggy, grumpy, sleepy) if I follow my craving and I remind myself of how energetic I feel and how my mood remains upbeat when I eat the foods that I know are good for me.

It's taken me most of my adult life to get good at this skill, but like anything else, in order to excel, you have to practice!

Keep at it Susan!! Whatever you do...never give up!
