Calories Calculator

Ever wonder how many calories you should eat in a day? Find out with my handy calories calculator!

It calculates the approximate number of calories you should consume to maintain your current weight. If you want to lose weight, you need to calculate this number first, then aim to eat 250-500 calories less in order to lose 1/2 - 1 pound per week. (More on calories).

Calorie Calculator
Age: yrs.

Height: ' "
Weight: lbs.
Activity Level:
kcal

Use the following definitions when entering your activity level in the calculator:

  • Very Light = Minimal movement during the day. Sit or stay in bed most of the day.
  • Light = Most of the day spent sitting, as in an office job. Sit watching television 2 or more hours/day. Planned exercise = 30 minutes to 2 hour per week
  • Moderate = Spend at least a couple of hours (combined) during the day walking or climbing stairs or doing housework. Planned exercise is at least 3 hours a week.
  • Heavy = Much of your day involves physical labor such as digging, heavy construction. Planned execise is vigorous or athletic.

The calculation takes into account your age, height, weight, and daily activity level, so keep in mind that as these variables change, your calorie requirements change. So bookmark the page and check back often as you go through various stages in your life!

When determining your activity level, consider how active you are during 80-85% of the day.

For example, if you work at the computer 40-50 hours a week, watch a lot of television, and walk on the treadmill a couple of times per week for 30 minutes, your activity would probably be "light." Even though you get some exercise, the majority of your time is spent sitting. Make sense?
