How Do I Start Establishing Healthy Eating Habits?
Figuring out how to eat healthfully can be overwhelming. There's so much chatter out there, so much information...
The list goes on and on and on. Every day there is news about a healthy food you need to eat regularly or an unhealthy food to shun.
So how's a normal person with other things on their mind to take on the daunting task of trying to establish healthy eating habits?
Follow this simple 3 step process and you'll be amazed at how easily your healthy eating plan comes to fruition.
Step 1: Take Inventory
Look at how and what you eat by keeping a diet journal for up to a week.
Step 2: Decide on What Changes You Want to Make
Remember that crazy list of healthful eating habits at the top of this page? Here's what it really looks like:
After a week of food journaling, the necessity of some of these may be more apparent.
Feel like you have to change everything at once? You don't!
Step 3: Start Small
Pick the easiest diet change to start with!
For example, eating more fruit may be the easiest habit for you to get into. (I'd recommend defining how many pieces of fruit a day or week would constitute eating more.)
Then, make a commitment to your new healthy food goal for a designated period of time. It could be for a week or even for as long as a one month - long enough for it to become second nature. For this designated period of time, concentrate on this one dietary change only.
Then after the week or month is up and that improvement is now part of your life, continue on to the next healthy eating habit on your list that you wanted to change.
A journey of 1000 miles starts with just one step.
Before you know it, a year will have passed and you will be eating a more nutritious diet, accomplished one good habit at a time.
