Growing Vegetable Soup
by Lois Ehlert

Growing Vegetable Soup
by Lois Ehlert

Reading Level: Ages 4-8

Your child will delight in watching a garden grow before his/her eyes in this wonderful food book for kids.

"In pictures as bright as sunshine, a father and child share the simple joy of planting, watering, and watching seeds grow in the family garden."

The best take away messages (in my dietitian eyes) are that it takes time, attention, and care to grow food and that a yummy meal can be prepared from what's picked in nature (vs. from a cardboard box!).

Nutrition Activities: After Reading Growing Vegetable Soup With Your Child

  • Prepare the veggie soup recipe in the book.
  • Ask your child to list favorite vegetables.
  • Download and print this free food coloring page (carrot).
  • Visit a farmers market.
  • Start your own vegetable garden.
  • Prepare a vegetable centered recipe. See recommended kid cookbooks.
